Lourdes Men’s Club
The Men’s Club of St. Mary of Lourdes is 75 years old and remains true to its original mission: Service and fellowship.
Formed in August of 1941, the club’s stated purpose was “to promote activity among the men of the parish, to assist in the improvements in and around the church, and to endeavor to return to the church the men living in the parish who have neglected their religion.”
Club members meet the first Sunday of each month for food and fellowship and to discuss ways to help the parish. Members provide maintenance support for the church, the rectory and the parish center. They care for the grounds and fences, trimming trees and shrubs, for instance, among other chores.
They support these efforts with fund-raising activities such as a euchre tournament, bocce ball tournament, golf outing, skeet shoot, two sausage-and-pancake breakfasts and a sale of homemade pork sausage.
The club also supports the Ladies Society and helps financially back the Youth Group in its annual mission trip.
All male parishioners are always welcome at any club meeting or work project.
